Mage Polymorph: turtle book

I had a long time raiding buddy tell me he just spent 1900 gold on the Mage turtle book. I figured my mains fishing was high enough to get the fish for the lure to summon Gahz'ranka to attempt got get the book. After about 1hr of prep everything was ready to go. I headed in with my 5x shaman and came out with 1 mage turtle book. The same guy who had turned me onto this turtle book recommended I sell it for 3k-4k gold. I though he was joking until I posted it on the AH for 4k BO and 2k Bid and got a bid within 2 hrs. I just logged on and 3800 gold was in the mail for this auction!

I've killed him at least 30 times on my mage, never even seen it drop

They sell for about 2k on my server

Fishing is super easy.

1-250 in Stormwind/Orgrimmar.
Do the quest.
250-300 in SW/Org (300 is as high as you need for ZG fish boss.)
Buy lures.
300-375 at Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh (feltail delight and blackened sporefish sell decently in the AH.) You can go here with lures around 250, but you'll still miss quite a few till you get to around 300 before using a lure.

Unlike every other profession, fishing skillups is in no way related to the difficulty of where you're fishing. You get a skillup every X successful catches, where X starts out at 1 and eventually gets to something like 8 or 9. For pure speed, your best bet is to fish only in SW/Org so you never miss a fish.

I believe the ZG book has a 10% drop, so with the 3d raid timer it may take you a while to get one. I managed to find one on my server for 1k, so my mage has it :).

I've farmed two of these for my two mages.

Took forever.

The fact that it is about an 8% drop rate, can only be done with a group, is in an out-of-the-way locale, can only be attmepted every three days, requires very high fishing, requires reagents from some island near Theramore, and requires some fish to set the lure each time make it worth $2K gold.

I have a couple groups that could and have farmed for it, but I make WAY WAY better gold doing dailies.

Then again, if you get lucky and get it to drop on your first outing, it is a fabulous return. (Just never go back b/c your return per time invested will plummet).

I farmed one for my mage in 3 trys. Easily 3-manned with tank, healer and a dps. I tried a few more times after that to get one to drop to sell and had no luck. Maybe ill try again once I can do it by myself and not have to roll anyone for it. It does sell for a pretty penny on ANY server so good luck on your drops if you try to farm it... :)

You got incredibly lucky... There was 5 of us farming ZG for ages to help a friend out get his book, we were on doing it for months!
