So I saw this on the BB website and decided it was time to upgrade from my 5 year old 17" Hitachi, as 5-boxing with overlapping windows sucks hardcore.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8913367&type=product&id=1213399955168

I figured I might as well pick it up on the way home from work so I clicked through to check in-store availability. Site said it was avilable for pickup, so during lunch I walked the 20ish blocks to the nearest BB. I look through the lcd selection and didn't see the model I wanted so asked a sales associate if they had it. He wasn't quite sure which model I wanted so I brought it up on his work station browser to show him the model number.

5 minutes later he calls me over saying "I got your monitor right here." It was behind the counter and he scanned the box while it was on the floor, out of my sight, which I thought was kind of odd. The little credit card swiper thing said $339.99. I ask whether the sale price will go through when I swipe my card. He answers that this is the correct price. Oh really? Well the one I want is $219. Oh no, this one here is the one you want. No.it isn't.

So he offers to show me the website to verify the price. He types in a model number other than the one I showed him earlier, turns around his screen to proudly display the price of $339.99. Dude, that's not the model I asked you for. Oh it's not? I want the one I showed you earlier.

Oh sorry, we don't have that model in stock.

...

/facepalm How stupid do you think I am?!?

Anyway, long story short BB tried to screw me over, trying to get me to purchase a completely different product at 150% the price of what I asked for.

That kind of nonsense should be reported to the Better Business Bureau.

i've found that stores like this always try to screw you.... obviously they want you to spend more money, so they try to pull everything they can out of the magic hat , because in most cases, people aren't smart enough to realize what the guy is trying to do

You know Best Buy has an internal and external websites right?

Meaning, the interweb, and then an IDENTICAL webpage that you can only see internally, with higher prices.

Yes, they got sued for this, and lost. But they still do it in the stores...Didn't know that, and it's ridiculous. This is a bit different though, in that I managed to bring up the model I wanted at the correct price on the in-store computer, and he tried to sell me a completely different model and brought up the other model to "verify" the price, AND he tried to sell this to me without letting me see the box.

even though this might not do anything, you might want to report this to the manager or something.... or just stay away from bestbuy from now on.... the only time i go to best buy is to get things that have similar prices with other stores, since BB is down the street from my house, i can buy video games and wow cards easily

Like all retail stores, service varies store-to-store. Some general managers don't stand for this sort of "sales" at all. I know the GM I worked for at Best Buy a few years ago fired a few employees for this sort of activity as soon as she found out about it - she didn't tolerate any deceptive tactics just to make an extra sale. Just report it to the GM of that store and hopefully they'll understand one of their employees isn't worth having around anymore. If the GM isn't receptive.. just say you'll visit a different store from now on. The individual stores are very competitive with each other (since each store has the sales, services, AND customer satisfaction metrics posted for all local stores in the GM office) and will do what they need to do to make sure you'll be back at their store instead of the other Best Buy down the street.

HAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!! You deserve it for shopping there!

I used to work at Best Buy when I was in college. Fuck that place. It's been nearly 10 years since I've worked there, and I'm still getting class action law suit letters against them. Every couple of years, I get notifications about ongoing lawsuits and so far, I've received 5 checks. gg Best Buy.. keep fucking shit up so I keep getting paid.

www.bestbuysux.org used to be a good site, until Best Buy hijacked the dns name to get rid of the bad publicity. Losers.

Only thing good about best buy for me is the fact, the digital camera I bought was a model 300, broke, brought it into the store and yes I got the "worthless 5 year warranty" The guy said they don't offer that model anymore, go ahead and find a camera you like in the price range.. So I looked saw my same type but model 400 got it replaced...Lets just say I am up to model 500  and I still have a year left on my warranty. Some how it always breaks when I drink alot and try to take pictures at the bars... ^^

That kind of nonsense should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. You do know that the BBB can't do anything, right? I'm sure BestBuy already has a significant case file with the BBB so adding one more is not going to change things.
