I just bought a Q6600 Intel processor (4 processors, each running at 2.4GHZ). With 2 GB of ram I could run 4 instances of the game at the same time, butter smooth (1 instance on top, the other 3 buried, IE: 1 monitor). Starting up a 5th instance of the game however slowed everything down quite a bit. With my G15 keyboard I could monitor my memory and CPU consumption and my processors were running between 20% and 70% each while my memory always stayed around 98% or 99% (that was vista swapping out to the hard drive as the ram filled up). I just ordered another gig of ram though so I should be good to go now with 5 instances of the game all running simutaneously.
That was with 32bit Vista Ultimate and an 8800GTS 320 Video card.
I am thinking of how nice it would be to get a second monitor and have a second video card push the other 4 instances of the game on that monitor so I can see each of their screens at any given time. not sure if you could assign the other 4 instances of the game to render on the second monitor. As far as I know you have 1 primary video renderer and all instances of directx use that. Maybe the cards in SLI would do it but as far as I know WoW and SLI do NOT mix well :(
I am running a 37" LCD running at 1920x1080 resolution.
