View Full Version : Multibox on PVP server

Just got into multi boxing started doing just a 3 box and boosting them in instances. Now with the new friend package and all that amazing potential I am looking at doing a classic 5 box shammy team. Problem is I am on a pvp server and wondered how many people have done a quest grind boxing 5 accounts (Will have to do it this way to get tripple exp) on a pvp server and how you found it. I get annoyed enough getting ganked with 1 char let-a-lone 5 and having to run back res and buff.
Should I just migrade or is it not as bad as I think?
Thanks

It will be as bad as you imagine :)

Of course, it works both ways - revenge can be sweet once you get into the right level range to dish it out!

It has to be something that you enjoy or that at least you can tolerate. I'm not a PvPer (I play on a PvP server because my friends are there) so I stayed in instanced zones and avoid the other faction as much as I am able to. Then again I have a mixed group that would not fare well in PvP anyway. My guess is that leveling will usually be quiet with the occasional owning of same-level characters and the occasional camping by higher level characters. But if you get one of those stalker types on your case it could get really ugly.
But some people don't mind that, they can deal with constant ganking and camping and it doesn't bug them, whereas other people will get upset and frustrated. If you are the latter, I don't think it will be worth it.

Yes I am the latter it drives me nuts. I too are based on a PVP server cos my mates like it. No shock to find out that one is a rogue and the otehr a Warlock..
So you rekon maybe if I want to give this a go that a PVE server move would be a better idea? I will do some research of my own but if any of you play on EU realms can you recommend any PVE servers? Goodish econemy no ques but people to raid with etc ?
I am also very interested to see how I accept 5 quests on each char and hand them in etc I guess it can get quite macro heavy.
Thanks for your inputs so far :D

I don't know how people can play on non pvp servers.. there is zero excitment.. I think the problem is that people think on a pvp server its non stop death, which is FAR from the truth... leveling my 5 sham team 0-70 i got ganked 4 times.... on other servers that woulda been worse no doubt, but i have leveled on many servers and pvp is the only way to go. And its nice when bored to goto area 52 and kill anyone that lands at the flight path, which you can do without guard problems:)
btw... if you lvl 5 sham on pvp, you will be killing 70's by the time you hit 55, and almost never get totally wiped ever again...

Suppose I would not think twice about leveling on a pvp server if I could boost but with the new friend thing it looks like if you want the tripple exp you need to quest and level 'normally'. I just have these images of having to run 5 shamans from the graveyard to there corse 1-2 every hour and really getting fed up. I guess if I was smart I could work on a leveling guide that does not involve places like STV. I am leveling a solo shaman up atm and it was hell real hell for weeks now grom and booty bay are just clear of NPC level 70's just sat around bored killing them as they spawn. I could not put up with that X 5.
I could just ignore the 300% exp and do pally boosting but that seems like a waste of a trick.

How difficult it is to level varies per server (low population vs high population), but it also depends on your playing style. Some advice that will help prevent getting ganked:
- Stay away from the obvious gank territories like hillsbrad foothills, STV and tanaris (unless you want to pvp)
- Try to reduce your visibility from roads, etc (if you have a choice, kill the mobs that are furthest away from the roads)
- Watch your chat and combat log for warnings of enemy players(and scout the area where you plan to quest)
- Don't leave a trail of npc corpses (either skip mobs, kill them all on the same spot or skin the corpses)
- Spread your quests over various territories, so you can always go to another territory if your current one turns into a warzone
- Killing other players will usually start your own private war and will probably draw in other (higher level) players, so minimize pvp killing in your quest areas
- If you do kill another player, don't hang around for them to bring in other (higher level) players (preferably go do the quests you have in other regions)
Almost forgot this, make sure that you have a lot of friends that don't mind coming to your rescue when things turn bad. You can mess up all the above, as long as you have enough people that will bail you out.

I don't know how people can play on non pvp servers.. there is zero excitment..That's just it, there are different approaches to it. Some people really do enjoy the thrill of knowing that they can be attacked at any moment (and that they can do the same to others that they happen to spot), and other people just want to focus on leveling or questing and don't want the interruption. I'm just not big on PvPing. I've done world PvP and arenas and battlegrounds and I can enjoy them in small amounts here and there, but for the most part I prefer to leave other players alone and to be left alone, and that's really contrary to the idea of a PvP server (although most of the time people *do* leave you alone, which is weird).
I've actually considered moving my 5-man team to a PvE server, since the whole reason for their existence is to run PvE. I have two main characters that I play with my friends and do not have plans to switch (even though I really like my hunter). With the new recruit-a-friend option, you pretty much have to re-roll a new character on your "inviter" account in order to get the most benefit from the "invitee" account, so it would be worthwhile to roll up a new team on a PvE server for leveling and questing.
Since I have five accounts I will not be taking advantage of it, but the other day I rolled up a five man Draenai team (paladin, priest, three hunters) on a PvE realm. I may swap a hunter for a shammy, dunno. It'll be fun to level the team up and not worry about gankers once I get past level 20!

I guess my problem has been Blizzards recent back down on Pve-->Pvp transfer. I was levelling a pvp group when Blizzard let Pve'ers transfer to the PvP server I was moving to, and I decided I'd rather not now.

Moleh 1-60 area is pretty dead. My first group of 5 to 70 I ran into a great deal of PVP. All of it pretty positive. STV is not a good idea, but even I level there. Once I hit 55 I had a few rogues that made it their hobby to gank my group and camp it. Other than that it wasn't too bad. Once you hit outlands you may find raids that form to come kill you, but come on with all that attention just for you it's something to enjoy. Plus you can take some with you hehe.
With this 2nd group of 5 I'm 40 now, I've seen maybe 10 people (thats adding both factions) in the wild. With the exception of getting ganked twice in Gadgetzan area, all has been well, killed the 4 alliance I saw up until this point. Extremely sad really. All that SM grinding and not a single damn group in sight to mow down.

You can always start on a PvP server, see if you like it, and stay, and if not, xfer to PvE. You can't go the other way though.

It was two Oceanic realms and one was suffering from extreme population imbalances.
Those two were the exception, not the rule. AFAIK Blizz has no plans whatsoever to allow PvE->PvP.
I did quests until I could do instances at lvl 14 or so, then I just ran instances till I hit 58. (Note: this is not the fastest way to level, I think I'm at 13 days played now, so if your in a hurry like most here, I can't reccomend it, but it is a good way to avoid the ganking. ) Not until I started BRD going from Thorium Point to the instance did I see any real action. However, I killed more then I got killed. Now I'm in Helfire there is a lot more pvp activity, but mostly from curious alliance and so far its been single 70s that I have been able to kill. I haven't been camped by a group yet, I expect that will happen soon, but w/e.
Last night was the first time I ever got harrassed by someone by dying. This silly lock came and dropped an aoe on me, I healed, dropped totems and killed her, she ss , I killed her again, she rezed I killed her again. What idiot sees 5 shaman with a totem farm down and thinks they are going to get anywhere, apparently I found one. I got bored of this and wanted to turn in my quests so I mounted up and rode off, she rezed followed me and tried me again. I killed her again, and again... she was terribad, but she just kept coming back for more. If she was trying to annoy me by dieing, she was starting to do a pretty good job of it, but it was nice to be able to take her out, red = dead, I fire on everyone. I like to try and see if I can kill them in the air so they have to take a spirit rez to get their body lol...

World PvP as a 5x shaman multiboxer = WIN
I do about 20 dailies a day and during that time I usually kill about 100-200 alliance. The amount of times the alliance have banded together to successfully take me down in the last 8 months is only twice.

The ganking was pretty bad, but to be honest not enough to really slow things down. Overall, the ganking Might cost you like 10 hours total, which isn't much for 10 days played and a 100 days at level 70 being able to gank anyone you want. A lot of people will gank multiboxing groups because they think they are bots, or they think they are being heroes. Then, a lot of people will just do it for the same reason a lot of your own faction will insult you - they come from the "you're doing something interesting and I'm not" camp and they resent you for it.
What made it 10x worse for me in outlands is I ran around ganking everyone I saw on a server with more alliance than horde. That got me camped by multiple 70s. Even then, it cost me very l ittle playing time. I quit ganking around level 65 and now most people leave me alone.

Stay on a PvP server! It is sooo worth it.
Yes, you will probably get ganked while leveling. Most level 70's will kill you, a few will ignore you. However, you will be level 70 too. 5 > 4 > 3 > 2 > 1. You always roll in 5's. You will always be able to kill anything/anybody you want.
Reasons why you should stay on a PvP server:
1) There's 5 of you. I 3-boxed and was able to kill 70's when I was level 52.
2) When somebody /spits /slaps /lol /target you... Kill them.
3) Opposite faction tagging all the mobs? Kill them and finish your quest.
4) Doing your dailies? (See #3) It's always fun to kill everything in site.
5) Everyone else has it worse. There is only 1 of them.
6) To be honest, at level 70, I have NEVER had anyone try to gank me. If fact, my guild name is <World PvP Battlemaster>. If that doesn't invite gankings, I don't know what does.
7) Depending on how well you do with #3 and #4, people will avoid you like the plague.
8) People always /1 for help with gankings. Be a hero, make some friends. They will follow you around like a lost puppy.
9) When the same faction sees you around an area, they are more inclined to attack the opposite faction. You give that sense of security.
10) Even if you do get ganked/camped... it will take more than a few people to do it. You WILL see them again, and there's a very good chance that they will be alone. You will always have 5 people. They will not.
11) You can always go from a PvP server to a PvE server, but not the opposite.
...Yes, it can suck at times while leveling. People will get on their mains and camp you. That's why they invented the Kill-On-Site addon. Take names... you will get your revenge. In the meantime, release and go make a sandwich or take a shit. It gets very boring waiting for people to res... trust me!
Why PvE servers suck:
1) When you get tired of PvE, you are stuck in the BG's if you have that desire to PvP. It gets very monotonous.
2) You are bound to PvE only. Sure you can flag, but do you think anyone is stupid enough to attack 5 people? Halaa? yeah... until you show up.
3) You can not go from PvE to PvP should you ever decide to.
4) You can't kill EVERYTHING/EVERYBODY in Gadgetzan.
5) ...so you dropped a few nova totems and some <opposite faction> agro's a ton of mobs, and brings them to your totems. !!! You can't kill them for doing that!!!
6) You know those stupid daily collection quests in IQD? Ever have a <opposite faction> beat you to your last (and only) mob? Doesn't happen on PvP servers cause they know they'll get a beat down.
7) If people want to harass you, they can logout, create a new toon of your faction to find you or talk crap to you. Can't happen on a PvP server.

I respect the die-hard PvPers, but whether PvP > PvE depends entirely on what you like to do. I, for example, don't care that I can't kill everything in Gadgetzan. I like Gadgetzan! I have a deal with a goblin that nets me entire crates full of moldy cheese for a mere handful of waterskins taken from the corpses of people minding their own business. Leave Gadgetzan un-killed, I say!
Occasionally I would like to kill another player, but even more often -- absolutely consistently, even -- I'd like to not be killed by another player. Corpseruns suck my love from the game. World PvP is all about corpseruns; you don't rez at the nice magical tauren without rez sickness ... no, you run from the graveyard half a zone away to find your corpse in the swarm of Allies all waiting around to kill you the moment you spawn. Maybe a third of the en-tiiire reason I multibox is to reduce those downtimes that I hate, waiting in a LFG queue and corpserunning. Screw corpseruns.

I currently 3 box shammies on a pvp server and honestly it is not that bad. Sure when I 1st hit outlands I had people failling out of the sky to kill the multiboxer, but now at 63 I dont really have a problem. Bottom line is u can kill just about anybody when it is 3 to 1
