I wanted to bring this up because no one has. Out of all the MMOS coming out, to me this seems like the most appealing. I’m not even all that crazy about pirates and that type of thing, hell I even didn’t like the pirates of the Caribbean movie. But this game, to me has potential above all.

Here is a quick like to some media footage downloads

Here is a 30min interview going over the game. This really gives you a good feel on what they are trying to do.

Now I hope you at least watched the interview. It should be out within a couple months. I’ve highly anticipated this game for many years. What’s appealing about this game is I think its going to be something like EVE. Completely player driven. Just imagine if you will. If you started EVE when it first came out. Joined a Guild/Corp/Clan of vast numbers owning a complete area to your selves. You would fight and die for that spot.

I played EVE for a couple months. I 5 boxed (2 were friends accounts). I only left for one reason. I could never find PVP. If I tried entering low sec space I would run in to a gate camp and get ganked. I never could get out of the game what I wanted with it. Mainly because of how late I started it (I played it this year). This game could very well turn out territorial, and by the video interview that’s what their aiming for. I really like that kind of motivation. Not sure exactly how well boxing will work out in this game but I plan to do it. Run some very expensive goods to point A to B with a large escort that I control sounds very appealing and rewarding.

Plus in EVE I got a thrill of sneaking 3 mining barges, Industrial hauler and my raven for protection over in to low sec for mining. I’d make so much money. Other days an entire fleet would come after me. The thrill of it was great. My heart would always race because in this game anything you risk truly is a painful punishment.

Something that I disliked about EVE was character advancement. I like to earn, advance at my own pace. This game has that. Also that this isn’t just another metal sword spin off of a original Ever Quest but a totally new approach to something different.

Anyone planning to play?

Avast me maties YARRR!

I like the idea of it, but time will tell.

As you said Bradster, it could very well be like EVE... which is bad for someone who can't play 24/7.[/u]
iirc Pirates was announced as something not that hardcore

Something I failed to notice is now SOE is involved. SOE is doing the hosting and taking care of the billing. Just like Vanguard they won't be doing anything with the game. Funny how Vanguard said that and look how the whole game turned out. Spelled SOE version of PVP all over it.

Which includes the following

Make PVP as low risk as possible.

Make it so 99% of anyone can up and run mid fight and get away

Don’t even try to remotely balance the game for 1 on 1. Give the blanket statement “group pvp” to avoid the time investment

Ignore all beta concerns and detailed write ups about the problems with the system.

Delete all post pertaining to the ongoing problems and the upset customers.

Once live make unrelated changes that has nothing to do with the complains from the consumer.

Punish the users by nerfing PVE abilities to show the public SOE is doing “something” about PVP. So they won’t risk asking for changes again.

Merge all servers down to just a few since not many are left. Not there’s a track record of them doing that with EQ2 or Vanguard or anything.

Look I like SOE for PVE. They have created some wonderful things and ideas. I won’t say I’ll never play a SOE game. There are quite a few things I like about their games. But support and their idea in a PVP system completely and utterly fails at best. Once deployed they are done and will never put the time in to it to make it right. Mark my words Vanguard on re-release of the epic fail will once again be a worthless PVP system.

So if the software company (to lazy to look it up) didn’t completely write the pvp stuff in already. SOE will be sure to sink the game. Pun intended. Don’t agree with me but Mark your calendar for Vanguard. I’ll be back to boast. I welcome the idea that I’d be wrong about it. I’d have more to gain from a new fun game.

Here’s hoping SOE didn’t create the PVP system to POTBS

The PvP system was in place before SOE signed up. And it's had some bad reviews from players from day 1, won't go into specifics, but PvP is easily avoided (takes plays in contention zones) with no penalty, and is semi-instanced... Hard to explain, but reading some stuff on the official site and forums will explain the sytem well enough

I was in the Eve beta then had to wait 4 months for the game to be available in UK :(

That said we were still in early and the corporation I formed is still going strong with my original char as CEO :) even though I haven't played in over 3 years.

I played for about a year but found that the game failed to deliver on so many levels... it was great for politics and trading but the actual gameplay I found to be sadly lacking... grinding away for days on asteroid fields while patrolling the area to clear the NPCs and Griefers. The only fun was ninja mining the ore from under another corps nose.

tbh I am glad I am out of it ;)

I have a few friends that are in the beta for PotBS one has been for ages... I might buckle to the pressure and give it a go when it is released... wonder how good it will be to multibox?

Interesting about EVE.

Really I did enjoy a lot of things about that game. But limited to only ratting, mining and mission running gets old fast. That and having tons of isk you made with no way to burn it because you must wait 45 days to three months for that skill to finish ugh!

YARRR. So I did a little research about the PVP in POTBS. You were right sir.

Here is a copy and paste

"To prevent “zerging” and overpowering by sheer numbers alone, multiplayer encounters will be instanced and locked. At this time, the number of attackers and defenders are limited to 25 on each side. Slots will be decided on a lottery system, and each gamer’s reputation points buys him a certain number of lottery tickets. A long-time player may have more chances to get into a slot, but lady luck calls the numbers."

I'll admit I am close minded, but pretend I didnt say that for a momment. My statement to this would be "BLAH!, I'm out"
