what are peoples thoughts? bliz puts a lot of consideration into raiding DPS when they work through their numbers. personally, i couldnt give a toss about gaining or losing PvE damage or the buffs/debuffs that will "increase our dps". how will this effect shamans ability to burst damage in PvP? 5% may not sound like a lot.. but if youre a boxer, with multiple shamans, thats a fairly significant loss.
i cant help but feel this nerf was an indirect response by blizzard to the success and publicity Ellay has been having lately.

Lol i linked the wrong response. there is a similar nerf in the works, i googled 5%, which was the estimated DPS loss from the current PTR, but didnt check the date.
same numbers apply, though.

It's actually about 10% from what I've seen.

I'd hope I'm never the cause of a change that effects every Shaman that plays this game O.o, but they have been wanting to nerf Lightning Bolt / Chain Lightning spell damage co-efficients for a long long time. Our burst is pretty high still and this change is very beneficial because it makes Resto Shaman less effective as DPSing compared to the spell that should be doing damage. Resto can pump out 750 dps when not needing to heal.
The expansion is going to have scaling on damage for everyone but HP is not going up a lot, maybe 2-3k from what I have heard. Blizzard's focus is on mitigating damage now and finding ways to avoid it.

Lightning Bolt always had a higher coefficient than similar bolt spells. This was because there weren't as much/any nature damage debuffs. Now that they exist, we're restoring Lightning Bolt to it's intended coefficient. Your DPS in a raid setting will if anything be higher with these changes.

I'm gonna head scratch this one. It seems like the want to make the back end less complex for them to write/maintain code. Consolidation of stats and things like that smack of an out of control design element that is becoming harder to code for. It's easier to just give a boss a resistance to everything of x, then say that a spell/curse/whatever drops it by y% or by flat amount of z for everything than adjusting individual numbers.
And to say that this will increase raid dps, well, WTF? I though this game was being balanced around their new PVP e-sport..... Why do they care about raid dps? It's a direct PVP burst DPS nerf to shaman.
It looks like Blizz wants to encourage varied group makeup for
raids. They setup synergies between different classes so you'd
want to have a spriest or a boomkin or a lock. I'd say good for
regular raiding, but a bit of a nerf to boxers that have single class
makeup (unless we create mixed groups as well).
