Hi together,
I'm now reading this forum from time to time and allready used the search button but can't find an answer to the problem I got...
I'm playing 4 Hunters right now and 3 are following the main, the problem is... if they're follow about ~4seconds it starts to lag heavy.... I've tried so many things now... 4 windows on 1 screen on my main.... 1 on each system... allways the same so it can't be the local network I think.... I allready installed WoW completely new without AddOns so this can't be the problem either :/
The best is.... if I control them all at once with Multibox there is no lag... but they're allways spreading out.... each of my systems has some other hardware :/...
Anyone knows an solution maybe? Oh and I got A-DSL 1000/128 only.... don't if that's the issue... but why don't I get lag if they are controlled without follow?
Oh and sry for my bad english :P

afaik there is known issue when /follow sends massive spam which affects your internet connection. So probably you need something like 100 mbit cable internet connection

Does it happen with separate WoW folders for all the clients? What's your computer like?
Personally I think it's that network issue, thought it would have been fixed by now, 128 kilobyte upstream will get choked.

Does it happen with separate WoW folders for all the clients? What's your computer like?Yes, all WoW's had an seperate folder when I tried it on my main. :(
Well my main: AMD X2 4400+ | 2gig ram | gforce 8800gtx.
System 2 (desktop): P4 3ghz | 1gig ram | x1900xtx
System 3 (notebook dell): P4 2,8ghz | 1gig ram | ati 9700 mobility
System 4 (notebook gericom): Centrino 1,4ghz or so | 512mb | 9700 mobility
All connected via cable, no WLAN!
Personally I think it's that network issue, thought it would have been fixed by now, 128 kilobyte upstream will get choked.I think so too :/ Hope when I move to my new house with ADSL 2000/386 it's going to work, but that's gonna take 1 or 2 months :(

Please goto this website and tell me your upload/download speed along with ping http://www.speedtest.net/
How old is your router? (older ones don't use Netstat which can cause troubles like this)

My upload/download speed and pings with different Servers (I'm from Germany, so the Frankfurt is the best for me :D) And Paris is where the WoW-Europe servers are located, so I tested that connection too.

And my router is a Netgear WNR854T (pretty new I think) link to specs (http://netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/RangeMaxNEXTWirelessRoutersandGateways/WNR854T.aspx)

The connection you have, that looks to be the problem. I'm downloading 3 torrents and I'm on-line with 5 accounts right now and here is mine
http://www.speedtest.net/result/187280631.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
Your upload is not fast enough.
A modem is 56k. We know that a 56k modem runs wow but not well. I had a lot of lag issues when I used one a couple times. Using that as an example.
56k x 4 that exceeds your current upload. Add a couple of back ground services, malware/spyware leeching a bit more of the connection (software checking for updates and such).
Looks to me like more upload is needed. Could be wrong but thats my 2 cents.
Would I be correct that you can run one account just fine? Perhaps two, only the 2nd one lags once in a while? Then when you logon three you start to have lag problems? Would be the upload.
DSL in the U.S you can pay more monthly for higher speeds. Maybe you can as well. I think that would solve all your problems. Hope it's a easy fix for ya.

I have to hit the hay, but i'll do another test when i'm not downloading torrents and on-line with the gaming. I normally have a pretty rowdy upload speed. That download is hard to match, i'm lucky.

Here I just logged out of my wow accounts, I was only on-line with 4 at the time I did the first test not 5 like I thought. Here's what it looks like now logged out.

Well the problem is, I can't get an faster Internet where I live now... but I'm going to move into a new home in 1 or 2 Months with 2000dl 384ul ... that should be enough....
I can play those 4 without problems if i control them all at once without follow.... but they're allways spreading more and more... what is kinda annoying in time...
As soon as I hit the follow macro... the lag starts and Accounts get disconnected.... allready had some friends here some time ago and we played with 4 accounts without problems too... it's just that god damn follow which maybe needs the upload :/... why can't they just programm the game right? :P
Seems like i have to wait for some weeks ;). Then I'll start with 1Shaman and 4Hunters (something different from what the others do)... hope the combo will work... wanna do pvp with them mainly (arena1 for honor soon!).
But anyways... thanks for the help!

well I have tested my ISP, it shows results like that:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/187415944.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
speed slightly jumps, download up to 9k and upload up to 1.1k
doh and my ISP says it is 100 mbit connection
I am not _very_ happy with this ISP but it seems pretty good...
So looking at your connection speed I am 100% sure it makes all the troubles.
You say you chars separate are ok. But as I said before when you use /follow there is a bug so /follow does massive spam and overloads your internet connection.
P.S. lol just noticed you did test to NY which is 100 miles away from you... US servers ~_~
tested my connection to Moscow - ~50 mi from me

WTF unit.... you got a 100mbps line? are you at the ISP?
real question is... what is your latency to the game server?
here's mine to a local server (ping sux hard)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/187731721.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
meanwhile, here's the same test but to WashDC.. almost 850 miles away (note the ping time... wtf)

keyclone, yeah I have 100mbit cable.
Not sure what you have meant, but if you mean location then I am like 40 miles away from my ISP
Latency in-game jumps from 32 to 112.

ok.. 75Mbps down and 25Mbps up is just crazy. how much does that cost?
wtf is going on where i cannot even buy those speeds in the US for under $3,000/month... we (ISPs in the US) really need to get on the ball.

well actually this is local speed, farther - slower
it costs 930 rubles, or like 35$ for 32gb traffic

Hope this is true. I had a 2mbit/2mbit shdsl connection at my former home, but I couldnt get more than 1mbit/256kbit where I live now.
I'm going to pickup my 5-boxing again this week, so I'm a bit concerned about the bandwith issues on /Follow
However I got 2 connections, one with 1024/256 and one with 768/256 to spread out the load on, so this might help. If not, I will have to subscribe to even one more broadband connection (getting expensive :P )

Having similar /follow lag issues while playing 5 accounts. My internet connection does not seem to be the culprit considering my speeds.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/189731067.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
Not great, but not bad either. My ping to server is usually around 14 - 122 to blizzard. Not too sure what it could be, but I will try 3 then 4 then 5 to spot any noticable differences between the three.
Also, as soon as they begin to follow they slowly trail off and after about 7-10 seconds they stop following. So it's not the usual lag, as in my main window not seeing where the characters "really" are in the WOW environment. The characters actually are trailing off bit by bit.
Any suggestions would help. BTW loving my 5 box experience, we are almost to level 6 and it took under 35 minutes!!! :oD

!!!Interesting development!!!
Just tested out three 5 minutes ago and everything was fine beside the usual visual lag, AKA main window showing my characters farther back, but on the alt screens they are right behind me. The thing is my ping was 1400+ with Beerfest going on, which leads me to believe it is not a network issue, but a client software/hardware one.
I would have tried five but my ping is horrible and I feel my findings would be inconsequential.
I'll try later and post my findings.
BTW, ne1 else experience the type of issue I posted above?
Also, might try to see if I have the same problems on a low pop. server.

I run 5-box on very high populate realm with 100-500 ppl queues but I dont have that kind of lag.

@kermit
check the ping times for each client. if they are falling behind, then they must not be receiving the commands from the server to move in the direction of the leader.
anyone else still have the follow bug? i thought it was resolved with the last patch

The ping times are all relatively low (25 - 125) while gaming during "non" peak hours. I have a feeling it still may not be the net connection because even my alt char's spells seem delayed with Keyclone.
I am going to try to play 3 from the PC and 2 from my lappy and see how that goes. Of course I am going to have to buy another license for KeyClone. :o) Lke that one Key?? lol

Found what my issue was. :o( I am running wow from the same directory for each instance. Figured this out after reading Xzin's short write up of the How To . . Box. Now I am in the process of copying the other four that I need for each account. I knew it had to be on my side and not a network issue, especially with all of the things that were happening (lag, video twitches, keys sticking, etc.).
Funny thing is, I was wondering if it would improve performance if I were to do create a different folder for each account. :o/
Oh well, hopefully this will do the trick.
