Server Politics

So you've decided to multibox. You've set up your hardware rig and installed all the software you need to control multiple accounts. You've decided on your characters, names, and class specs. Great, but remember, you're not playing Mario Brothers! The next step is to recognize the challenges you will face as you play this community-based game.

Selecting a Server

The first order of business will be to decide what server you will play on. There are many options, and they will depend on your playstyle. PVP and PVE are important choices to make, but when multiboxing, there is another important thing to keep in mind.

How your server will react to a multiboxer

Some servers will think nothing of a multiboxer. If you decide to play on Magtheridon, for instance, you will most likely be ignored and/or accepted. If you play on Hakkar, it's very likely you will be the center of attention, and at least some portion of that attention will be negative.

Multiboxing Etiquette

After selecting a server, you will want to make sure you know just how you want to be seen to other players. While your attitude is your own, please keep in mind that you will be a highly visible phenomenon. You will stand out to people when you are in cities, while you do quests, and anywhere else you go. (except most instances of course) While it's true you can treat other players however you would like, it's important to remember that you represent a community. Here are some tips for etiquette that may help you.

  • Be polite to others
Remember that while what you are doing is perfectly legal, your actions are likely to show up on a GM's screen. If you have 20 people curse at you in an hour, and you let one mildly obscene word slip, you will most likely hear about it, and they won't be bothered.
  • Don't argue with ignorant people
Remember, when you argue with people, other people standing nearby won't be inclined to defend you. Everyone's listening to what you say! Instead, explain what you are doing and why it is allowed by Blizzard. Be friendly!
  • Inform
With all the attention you get, you might start to feel like a celebrity. Why not use your star power to spread the good word? When people have questions, point them to dual-boxing.com!
  • Entertain
Many multiboxers make it a point to visit major population centers, such as Ironforge and Orgrimmar. Making formations, casting spells in unison, and dancing together are great ways to capture people's interest. You'll make friends, and these friends will stand up for you when you are harassed.
