Group Make Up/Difficulty

  • Tank: Unholy DK
  • DPS: 4x Elemental Shaman

Easiest and fastest Heroic by far - best Heroic to start on and best to farm emblems with. Final boss is the only one that might give trouble on the lower end of the gear spectrum

Tips and tactics

  • On pulls with fireweavers, drop grounding totems. On all other pulls drop your normal air totems. Note, you should add "Nature resistance Totem" to your "standard" air totem drops. It helps a lot in this instance on random pulls and some other instances too, so you might as well drop it any time you aren't dropping a grounding totem.
  • On the snake pulls, take out the spitting cobras first as they will hit your dps and also do more damage than the constrictors.
  • On troll pulls, try to kill the medicine man first since he heals. After that its your choice but I usually like to take out the fireweavers second even though my grounding totems absorb some of their spells, they do an annoying blastwave that can't be absorbed.

Slad'ran

Easiest fight in the instance. The trick here is twofold. First, position your DPS on the ramp coming in from the entrance of the instance, 1 level up from the ground floor. Your tank will pull the boss into this room at decent range from the DPS. This way your DPS doesn't get hit with any AoE attacks. Its also your choice on whether to pick the snakes up with your tank or just let them go by and attack your DPS. I recommend dropping 4x healing stream totems along with everything else, which will 100% nullify the snake add damage on your DPS. The rest of this fight is a tank and spank, once the boss goes down do 4x thunderstorm to take out all the snakes.

Drakkari Colossus

This is also an easy fight if you prepare correctly. First, position is key. Make your DPS into the 4 corners of a square in the room the boss is in. Your tank will sit in the center and all 4 DPS will be staring at your tank. Now test cast a chain heal to make sure all 4 shamans get hit with it. The trick is to drop a nature resistance totem, and 4 healing stream totems, then your normal totem stack. Now, pull the boss into the center of the room. I typically blow my trinket/cooldowns/bloodlust right at the beginning. As soon as he morphs into the elemental I drop 4x earth elementals - he will attack them and they are immune to him. Even without the eles hes cake - simply chain heal as needed on your shamans and go all out on the boss while trying to keep him towards the center. Don't worry about moving out of puddles, healing stream totems + chain heal easily heals through it. You won't need your earth eles the rest of the instance so you might as well drop them the first time he morphs.

Drakkari Colossus -- Method #2

The method described above is how I originally approached the fight. It was my inspiration for the following method. Note that it is very similar but I find it to be more effective as I haven't wiped while using it. Instead of positioning your shamans in a square looking in on the tank, position them in a semi-circle facing the center of the room (facing the colossus). Throw down your totem farm to begin. As an unholy DK tank I generally send my pet in to get his attention. You actually have to have him (the pet) attack the closest purple elemental and then when they form into the colossus have him attack the big guy as well. As soon as the pet initiates aggro on the colossus I click the pacify pet button to retrieve him as any extra dps is good. This will cause him to run at your team. I have my DK sitting in the center of the platform with the shamans...as soon as the colossus is within range I throw D&D down and run through him, spin around and grab threat as quickly as possible. This causes him to be facing away from the shamans so that when he "phases" into the elemental he's no where near your team. I refresh D&D as often as I can and keep whichever form he's in facing away from my team. There is the occasional instance where the elemental form may charge a member of your team. If this happens simply "taunt" him back and heal your team and finish him off. Hope this helps.

Moorabi

Also easy. This boss is a 100% tank and spank. The only trick he has up his sleeve is turning into a mammoth which can be counterspelled. If you miss the counterspell hes still easy as a mammoth. He does a bit more damage and he will do a quake attack. If you see him doing a quake attack just start spamming LHW on the tank to top him off, and spam it again after the quake is over - then 1 chain heal on your DPS should bring them back to full. Just go all out and he'll go down easy. If you can interrupt his mammoth cast every time you will get an extra achievement, and its fairly easy to interrupt.

Eck the Ferocious

This is the additional boss on Heroic mode. He's not too hard either. I typically position my shaman in the room above where you find the boss, and wedge them into a corner facing the door into Eck's room. Drop all your normal totems (nature resist might help so I always drop it). Also 4x healing stream is what makes this boss easier. Pull Eck into the room and once you have some good aggro use all your cooldowns and bloodlust. The only trick this boss has is he will periodically leap on one of your DPS. When he does this, its an aggro wipe, and he will shortly after (maybe 3 seconds later) spit on them which will hit them with an AoE. The goal is, after he leaps, wait about 1.5 seconds and then taunt him. You want him to still be under the effects of the taunt when he spits, so he will spit at your tank. Have no fear, if you mess this up the healing stream totems will save you - just add 1-2 chain heals into the mix to keep your DPS up and keep going.

Gal'drah

The final boss. This guy took me a few decent tries to beat until I got a good tip. He has 2 phases that he goes back and forth between. Phase 1 is him as a troll - he does minimal damage, except when he whirlwinds which puts a stacking DoT on you. If he whirlwinds, move away from him with your tank but keep DPSing him. You also want to tank him as far away from your shaman as possible otherwise he will periodically hit them.

The second phase, the boss transforms into a Rhino. During this phase the boss does a LOT more damage - if he crits you you will probably die in 1 hit (You are uncrittable aren't you? Aren't you??). Now is the time to use boneshield, or icebound fortitude, etc. In this phase, you want to pull the boss right up next to your DPS to prevent him from throwing them out of range of chain heal and/or DPS distance. Do NOT DPS during this phase - you might miss a key heal. I simply keep hitting him with my tank and do lesser healing waves on the tank and 4x chain heals as needed to keep everyone up. You could probably drop 4x healing streams on this phase also to make it even easier.

Once he goes back to his troll form, use all cooldowns, bloodlust, trinkets, etc, and burn him down fast. You should be able to take him down at this point before he transforms again. Congratulations, you just beat Gun'Drak on heroic, got 5 emblems, and can pat yourself on the back. Once you run this instance a few times you can get 5x emblems in < 45 minutes.
