    Default New PC incoming

    Gi everybody,

have been delaying and delaying the purchase of a new computer, but next week I'm gonna bite the bullet.

I looked around a bit and found http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/be/nl...4-5148052.html

Would it be possible to 5-box on this system,

    Cheers J

i think it should suffice. Only sticking point for me would be the video card, but rest of the system looks okay.

No, I would not attempt to run 5 games off of a GT 530 and expect good results.

Agreed. You can try it, but you may get really poor framerates with it. The 530 is VERY low end.

For what it's worth, a higher number does NOT mean it's faster than a lower number, unless it's in the same generation (as a general rule). For example, the "5" in 530 means it's part of the most recent Nvidia generation, but the "30" means it's at the very low end.

This heirarchy chart gives a good idea of what to expect - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rd,2964-7.html
I don't see the 530 on it, but I expect it will be below the 450 when Tom's updates the chart to include it. Here is a quote from a review:
On the low end, the GT 530 features 96 cores running at 700MHz, 128-bit memory bus, and 1GB or 2GB of video memory. Needless to say, it will be a better option than integrated graphics, but demanding gamers will want to steer clear.

Are you kidding me? I run a 9800 gt and I'm fine running 5 easy.

I'm really not sure what you're arguing here... your 9800 GT is technically a better card than a GT 530.

keep in mind that some new cards are made to suck, so high end older cards can sometimes be better.

Ya the hierachy chart is really good:

    GTX 590, HD 6990 (best)

    GTX 580, HD 5970

    GTX 295, GTX 480, GTX 570, HD 6970

    GTX 470, GTX 560 Ti, HD5870, HD6950

    GTX 560, HD 5850, HD 6870

    GTX 285, GTX 460 1GB, GTX 465, HD 6850 (value)

    GTX 260, GTX 275, GTX 280, GTX 460 768 MB, GTX 460 SE, GTX 550 Ti, HD 4870, HD 5770, HD 4890, HD 5830, HD 6770, HD 6790

    8800 Ultra, 9800 GTX, 9800 GTX+, GTS 250, GTS 450, HD 3870, HD 4850, HD 5750, HD 6750 (bare minimum for 5 box WoW)

Each line is a "class" in the above list from best to worst (by line). The 9800 GTX is the very bottom line, then 460 GTX (2G) is the value area and anything above that is performance. I removed the X2’s as SLI etc. no good for wow. Any chip above that has 2 gpu's on them I would also avoid. This is a good way to compare the ATI vs. Nivida. Keep in mind 2G video ram (DDR3 is ok though) is really the minimum for 5 boxing. Anything not listed above (unless its to new) is garbage for boxing and should be avoided.

Putting this post up on my forum.

While I dont disagree Fenril, with what youre saying, the OP's question was... "Would it be possible.."

So on that note, I disagree with the "No", and I still stick by, "yes". Yes, it is possible. Many users here, have used worse systems and been able to 5 box. The OP didnt ask for stellar settings while 5 boxing.
