Default 8GB RAM used to be enough to 5-box in Pandaria - not enough anymore?

I've been on a break for a while from WoW, but decided to get back into boxing the new expansion.
Unfortunately, what used to be sufficient RAM is no longer enough.

Do I just need to buy more RAM, or is there some setting I can change to decrease the amount of RAM each instance uses?
All graphics settings have been lowered the minimum, but each instance is still using about 1.2 GB.
They all crash once the 5th toon enters the world and I get a message about insufficient RAM.

    Hell, at 5x 1080p DX11, I had trouble with 12GB over a long session.

Just logging in my team to the inn in Stormwind's Old Town and I eat up 1.2GB per client using the 64-bit client and DX11. Using the 32-bit client, I use slightly less than 1GB per client.

I fear so. Although I didn't suffer from any crashes myself, excessive paging made the game unplayable after the 6.0 release on my old computer, for which 8GB was the max, so I had to fix it with a shiny new computer instead. I hope yours is recent enough that you can add some still.

My PC is close to 4 years old, but when I bought it, I purposefully left 2 open RAM slots, so not a big deal.
CPU is an i7-2600K, which still seems decent.
Upgraded GPU a few months ago to a GTX970, so I'm good there I think.

Looks like it's 16GB for Home Premium, which is how much RAM I now have, so I'm good for now.
