Shadow Orbs

Anyone know what these do in the current beta build? I've read that the more orbs you have, the more damage certain spells do. I've also read that you can use shadow orbs to buff an ability or remove a cooldown. However, I'm not sure if the latter was just a suggestion for Blizz to implement or actual mechanics - and I can't find much information on the subject. Everyone wants to talk about shadowy apparitions instead.

Shadow orbs just make your Mind blast hit harder that is all.

You have a 10% chance for your Shadow Word: Pain and Mind Flay spells to grant you a Shadow Orb each time they deal damage. The Shadow Orb increases the damage done by your Mind Blast and Mind Spike spells by 0%. Each point of Mastery increases damage by an additional 2.5%.
