Default If I were a ____, I'd want this to be my group

Since I'm considering starting from scratch with a new 5 box group, I've been thinking a lot about class synergy. I ran across this thread on the hunter forums and I thought it would be nice to do something similar, tailored towards multiboxers, for each class.

It'd be nice to hear everyone else's opinions on "perfect" 5-box groups tailored around a certain class. I've created the following template:

    [code:1]INSERT-CLASS-NAME Spec:
    Class/Spec 1:
    Class/Spec 2:
    Class/Spec 3:
    Class/Spec 4:
    Comments:[/code:1]

Replace "INSERT-CLASS-NAME" with a class, and then fill in the blanks.

For example... If I were a druid (i.e. The druid was my main), I'd want this to be my group:

    Druid Spec: balance
    Class/Spec 1: Shaman/elemental
    Class/Spec 2: Shaman/elemental
    Class/Spec 3: Shaman/elemental
    Class/Spec 4: Shaman/elemental
    Comments:
Crit-based team - moonkin aura + 4x totem of wrath. Shaman provide a out of combat rez, mana spring totem, wrath of air.

Another example, if I were a priest, I'd want this to be my group:
    Priest Spec: holy
    Class/Spec 1: Warlock/affliction
    Class/Spec 2: Warlock/affliction
    Class/Spec 3: Warlock/affliction
    Class/Spec 4: Warlock/affliction
    Comments:
4x soulstones for the priest, warlock lifetap scales nicely with aoe heals and HoTs. Pets can tank PvE mobs and lots of fears & seduce for PvP.

Anyway, I'm going to fill a few out with some opinions of different groups but I'd love to hear your guys' ideas. Be as verbose as you like.

I'd love to try something like this:

    Paladin Spec: Protection
    Paladin/Split(10/18/33)
    Paladin/Split(10/18/33)
    Shaman/Enhancement(DW-0/40/21)
    Shaman/Enhancement(DW-0/40/21)
    Comments:
    Sustainable low-grade AoE
    Double armor/resist/stats via totems/auras/blessings
Highly survivable with heals all around
    Wipe recovery
    Moderate spellcast abilities
    Self-healing via totems and judgements
    Spell interrupt (earth shock) x2 + 10s stun x3
Tremor totem + grounding totem for breaking/absorbing CC
    Cleanse/Purge
Pally mount speed boost (Zoom Zoom!)
    Windfury x5 ZOMG
+10% AP for entire party on crits (Unleashed Rage)
    ...and don't forget....
    FROSTSHOOOOOCK!

    For PvE fun

    Paladin Spec: Prot
    Class/Spec 1: Priest/Shadow
    Class/Spec 2: Priest/Shadow
    Class/Spec 3: Priest/Shadow
    Class/Spec 4: Priest/Shadow

    Comments:

Paladins have insane aggro generated, easy ability to control many adds, and are superior tanks all around, provided they have the mana to do it. With 4 Shadow Priests, the mana regen and health regen alone is infinite. They can all go straight damage without ever having to stop.

If I ever 5 boxed and I was highly PvE oriented this would without a doubt be the setup for me.[/i]

that was my thought too until 70. Then I realized that disc/holy nuke spec is FAR superior. You can take on any number of non elites if your paladin is fairly good geared, and pull 10-15 elites in an instance and nova them down without problems.

Sure you get some downtime drinking between while drinking, but by the time you finnished looting everything, your priests is ready to rock'n roll next pack anyways

I have frapped a 40 min full botanica run I did this way, I just need to get around to edit it for a movie :P

Uhmmm ... oh wow. I never thought of that before. AoE nukes + AoE healing.

How do you not run out of mana tho? Those holy nova are a big mana drain. Does it just kill fast enough that mana is not a problem?

I did my first AoE run in SL the other day. The Paladin just said "No CC. Just nuke everything.". I was like, WTF, no one does an instance without CC unless they had to. But it was the absolute fastest run I had ever done. I was playing my hunter and was multishotting every chance I had, and laying AoE traps and volley whenever possible. The mage with us was also AoE'ing a lot. It reminded me of a PBAoE group from DAoC. Which everyone knows is the fastest way to level in that game.

Ok, I'm rambling, but my eyes have been opened from that run in SL and the idea of Holy Nova priests...

Would be interested in seeing this Holy Nova tactic

  8. #8

    Default

    Holy Nova (7): 242 - 280 Damage -> 875 Mana

so that's about 10-12 times you can cast it until you're out of mana

    2800 damage done * 4 = 11,2K Damage.

Won't work for a bossfight but for trash it should work excellent because it causes no threat.

does holy nova scale with +dmg or +heal?

Sorry for late posting. Not allways paying attention to all posts :P

I'm not entierly sure how well nova scales with dmg, havent tested it.

But I use a macro that activate both trinkets, PI, inner focus and nova

Normal hits is like 4-500, with all my powerups I have 800-1000 crits.

You also have to take into consideration that you have surge of light that makes instant smites for free, you have shadowfiend, consume magic and potions (TK potions is nice and free)

As said, nova works exelent on trash. you can pull 15+ elites with fairly good tank gear. On bosses however this would not work. Here I stick to smites (hits about 1500 with my gear/spec,crits up to 2500), Holy fire and sw

There is no question about that shadow works better for singeltarget, but I dont think a good disc/holy nuke spec is that far behind in dps (with sanctity aura). Not that good mana efficiancy however, but you have enough to kill most bosses, even in heroics with only 3 dps'rs

Remember also that priests have quite a few holy spell dmg talents. People tend to forget this and thinks priest dmg = shadow

Holy spec - 5% holy spell crit
Divine fury - -0,5sec cast time on smites/holy fire
searing light - 10% extra smite dmg
Spiritual guidance - gives dmg for your spirit
Spirit of Redemption - gives you 5% extra spirit, thous more dmg
Surge of light - instant smites (procs allmost everytime when you aoe)
Meditation - works good with spirit build like this(also gets buffed in 2,3)
Imp. sprit - very good with spirit builds. with this you get a total of 35% damage from your spirit)
Force of will - 5% extra dmg AND crit. A must have talent for a holy nuker
    Power Infusion - Another must.

This is an example of one of my priest builds. I use slight variations. One priest with imp spirit, one with fortitude and one with shield maxed.

As you will see, this is no healer build. And thats not the point of it either. I have imp. renew for healing, and thats about it. This helps keeping me up on very large pulls, and on bossfights. All other talents are dmg talents/mana efficiancy
