DDO is now free - anyone tried boxing it?

Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO) has no subscription cost any longer and the client can be downloaded and played for free. Has anyone tried multiboxing the game? I tried the game out about 4 years ago when it first came out but didn't really get into it that much. The main thing I remember was the targets you went after would move around you while you were fighting them. The graphics looked good and it had things like swimming in water, etc. But if I remember right, it had no auto follow which was the main reason I didn't continue playing it. In their help page, it said the programmers purposely made it so there was no auto follow. Don't know if that has changed or if it's still the same. Just wanted to see if anyone has had any luck in multiboxing the game.

DDO is not something I'd even try to multibox in the common sense. There is no follow and fights are very mobile {requiring a lot of movement from you as well as mob movement}.

But, there are hirelings in the game, which allow you to micky-mouse a multibox group. The hirelings in game allow you to have one per group member {I would play a ranger, my husband would play a wizard, we'd get a tank hireling and a healer hireling}. They last the duration of one dungeon or outdoors exploration area and cost a piddly amount of gold.

Or you can get gold contract hirelings, which are purchased through the store. Nice thing about the store is you get Turbine points from things in game as well as the ability to purchase them points with real money. Anyway, the gold contract hirelings allow you to have more than one hireling at a time. I'm pretty sure you can fill an entire group with them, but I never got far enough to need more than 3.

You can't choose hireling spells, they come with the most basic of abilities {IE clerics have heal, cleanse, turn undead, maybe a buff}, but they have their own panels so you can control them to an extent.

I've been boxing to an extent. I just have a cleric on the other computer and she stays at the entrance. I use her for buffs, and I also have her bring a cleric hireling.
I also bring a cleric hireling and I have both hirelings set to guard me. This lets me run through the missions with 2 healers and it works for the most part. They get tore up with traps, though.

The hardest part is running them through town or some instances that require travel for both characters. Ive gotten kinda good at running them together. I have my right hand on the slaves keyboard and run her forward, while my main stays behind a bit. I can then steer both without having to look over at the other computer. It's tough, but it works.

Whats really nice is the cleric can stay at entrance and still get kill credit and quest credit. Since its a free to play account, it doesnt cost a dime (unless you want access to better adventure packs). With Extend feats, you can get some good duration buffs going. You can also clear out the dungeon partway and bring the cleric up for more buffs.

DDO is certainly harder than most MMO's to box but can be done to some extent. This would be an absolute blast to box if they allowed a /follow command.

I've been trying to figure out how to multibox DDO for the last few weeks to no avail. Every time I try to load two clients (on separate drives/partitions), it cancels one and runs one.

Its beent to no avail. I wanted to box a cleric and or rogue. Really any class that has a good ability to unlock, spot and search for hidden stuff. So probably like a bard or rogue.

If anyone can share their multiboxing wisdom of how to run two clients on one pc, I'd like to know.

I did what they sugested in your link there, Dullahan, and by making a copy, and the .bat file, I was able to play two accounts at the same time, no problem. I have Vista on my machine. (Edit: I have to start, and then start again. I get an error message the first time, the second time, they both start fine. )

Now, I am going to start up more accounts, just to see how many my pc will handle

Only problem is, the screens are not easy to overlap, and I can't see how I am going to controll two or more characters at the same time. Two screens will help some I think. So I guess Im mostly going to park the extras just inside the door, and use hirelings

Would Keyclone get me banned from DDO you think? I used Keyclone when tri-boxing in Wow. Would be nice to have the possibillity to heal with a back-up priest whitout taking fokus away from the main since fighting requiers constant focus.

i could run the 2 clients in my pc but cant get keyclone to send the keys to the other windows.

I looked at DDO, when it was new and subscription based.

It didn't pull me in, but was intriguing.
