My rotation on any 5man heroic boss fights is the following:
Arcane Power macro, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast, Arcane Blast
Here is a trick
Normally, any raiding mage caps hit rating to 17% (for boss level fights lvl 88+)
However, my targets are below that. For example bosses in 5man heroics are lvl 87.
So I can cap my hit rating only to 6%, which allows me to stack haste and mastery instead of hit, and I barely miss my targets.
Second very important thing here are the talents, and how you spend the points.
Incanter's Absorption 2/2
"When your Mana Shield or Mage Ward absorbs damage your spell damage is increased by 20% of the amount absorbed for 10 sec. In addition, when your Mana Shield is destroyed, all enemies within 6 yards are knocked back 12 yards."
This talent grants up a great amount of spell power, though you need to stand in fire until your shields goes off to have maximum benefit from it (Mana Shield + Mage Ward can easily add your spell power by a few k's)
Improved Mana Gem 2/2
"Mana gained from your Mana Gem also increases your spell power by 2% of your maximum mana for 10 seconds."
I use Volcanic Potions a lot (actually every time I use my Arcane Power -macro, my mages try to drink these if they have some on the inventories.
On my main mage, I have around 7000 spell power without the Arcane Power -macro, and around 14000 spell power with it.
If you like to level up your mages superfast inside instances, I strongly suggest you to consider using this talent as well:
Improved Polymorph 2/2
"When a target you've polymorphed is damaged, that target is stunned for 3 sec. This effect cannot occur more often than once every 10 sec."
Even if you think "meh, it's only 3 seconds.." you will be stunned about the results.
Let's say I'm in The Lost City of Tol'vir heroic, and I've sheeped a pack of those deadly ones.. When I start dpsing one sheep, they usually go down in that 3 seconds before they even can face my team.. not to mention using any their abilities
Also if you're unlucky with the crits, and the mob seem to be still alive before 3 seconds, you can throw Improved Counterspell 2/2 at them, so they won't use any harmful instant abilities, they just "run" to your team very very slowly, since Arcane Blast also applies Slow (Nether Vortex 2/2)
